The African Women’s Development and Communication Network (FEMNET) is a regional, membership-based non-governmental organization (NGO). It operates through Sub-regional and National Focal Points (NFP) most of which are women’s network or umbrella organizations. FEMNET was set up in 1988 to share information, experiences, ideas and strategies among African women’s NGOs as a strategy for strengthening women’s capacity to participate effectively the development of our continent. This is done through advocacy, capacity building, communication and networking.

As a membership organization, FEMNET continues to effectively engage and connect her members in critical discussions and processes. In 2016, our membership grew from 548 in 2015 to 596 in 2016. We believe that our impact is stronger when we work as a collective. Read more on membership.

  • FEMNET is a Pan-African Feminist Network of over 500 women’s rights organizations in 43 countries continues to promote women’s rights and the gender equality agenda.
  • FEMNET is about mobilizing and connecting our members – strengthening their capacities to organize and participate effectively in the development processes at different levels in Africa.
  • FEMNET is about informing and sharing ideas, experiences, strategies and models that are working for women’s empowerment and gender equality.
  • Yes, FEMNET is about influencing policymakers and other actors to create an enabling environment and avail adequate resources for the realization of gender equality and women’s empowerment.
